Category C1+E - Medium Goods Vehicle with Trailer

category C1Category C1+E is for large vans and small lorries (3.5 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes MAM) with a trailer in excess of 750kg MAM.

Driver who passed their Category B test before January 1997 already have Category C1+E on their driving licence, BUT are limited to a COMBINED vehicle and trailer limit of 8.25 tonnes MAM (7.5 tonnes + 750kg).

Drivers who passed their basic Category B (car/light van) test after January 1997 will have to pass a Category C1 test before being permitted to undertake Category C1+E.

Passing a Category C1+E test will increase the COMBINED vehicle and trailer limit to a MAXIMUM of 12 tonnes. There are weight, combination and age restrictions applied.
