Category C1 - Medium Goods Vehicle

category C1Category C1 is for those who passed their car driving test since January 1997 and who wish progress from Category B vehicles.

Drivers who passed their Category B test before January 1997 already have Category C1 on their driving licence.

Category C1 covers larger vans and light lorries (3.5 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes MAM). You need to be minimum of 18 years old. You may also tow a trailer up to 750kg GVW.

You will be required to pass a medical examination, a multiple choice Theory Test, a video based Hazard Perception Test and a multiple choice Case Study before being able to undertake practical driving tuition.

Please click here for further information on Chequered Flag Theory Preparation courses.

Practical tuition now consists of two tests, your driving test and a further test on vehicle inspection, loading and security.

Category C1 is normally required for driving ambulances (paramedics) and small/medium horseboxes
